Mohammed Atta, one of the leading 9/11 conspirators, spent some time in Salou.

Using credit card records, police have tracked Atta's movements back to the Mediterranean resort town of Salou. Although Atta returned his rental car to the Madrid airport with an additional 1,200 miles, the Spanish police say they don't yet know how Atta spent most of his time in Spain, or whom he might have met in Salou.
